Pretty decent hardcore (for those wondering, THIS is what hardcore sounds like, not Pulp). The first track is a bit weak, with rather standard guitar bits and that type of "rotating-circle-slam-pit" rhythm, and the type of vocals (read: screams) I was just never able to get into. However, the b-side track, "For My Farewell", definitely makes up for its predecessor; this is good mid to late nineties hardcore, pure and simple, with time shifts, style changes, and that quiet-to-loud style of guitar driven anger rock so popular right now.
There is definitely some early Neurosis influence here, as well as a number of 90s double bass (blech) bands, but overall this is a fairly strong record, if you can get past the death metal-esque vocals, which I have difficulty doing. Still, I found myself enjoying this one. The engineering is very lo-fi, even getting that "pop" out of the snare that used to dominate punk and hardcore in the 80s and 90s (but these days is sadly absent), which made me rather nostalgic for the old days when hardcore was hardcore and the pop punk kids didn't play frat parties.
